Rosemaling is a style of floral painting that originated in rural areas of Norway about 1750. Such colourful art covered ceilings, walls and furniture in many rural homes. It was particularly used as decorations on wood bowls, boxes and trunks, many of which were brought to North America by Norwegian immigrants.

Rosemaling enjoyed a North American revival in the 1930s, and it is now a popular pastime for many, including active rosemalers within Solglyt Lodge in Edmonton.

Solglyt Lodge sponsors rosemaling workshops geared toward various skill levels, starting with children. Active rosemalers within the Lodge offer encouragement and advice through a network and informal rosemaling sessions.
